2015 Equinox Battery Dying After Only 2 Years?!

2015 Equinox w/50K miles. Produced 10/14 and I bought it in 12/14.

We've been in the 70's for weeks and just started a cold spell last night (for GA) and it dipped into the 40's. My Equinox is slow to start this morning. Was out running errands and started it 4 separate times this morning and every time the dash lights dimmed and it was slow to start. My radar detector has a built in volt meter and it's still showing 12+ volts during start up, but obviously it's not putting out the amps.

Did a search here and it seems GM doesn't care after 50K miles. I've NEVER had a battery start giving up after only 2 1/2 years! Anyone else have short OEM battery life?

Well. .. there ya go. . all the "High Amperage" audio gear has taken its toll. LOL

The short battery life has been common with the factory supplied battery. The goal these days is weight saving , so battery plates are thin. As a result, heat during the summer can cause the battery to age more rapidly until the capacity starts dwindling. But you might check the terminals first just in case.

There have been a number of owners who had batteries die in even less than 2 years depending on climate and use.

GM Delco does off and upgrade battery with a longer warranty for our vehicles.

A couple of random thoughts here.

Add-ons pulling too many amps
A parasitic draw from radio, radar detector, or anything else
A module not going to sleep as it should
Alternator not putting out enough volts/amps

Normally an Interstate Battery fan, but may try a Duracell brand from Sam's Club... $35 cheaper and better warranty: 3 year free replacement.

Anyone ever try Duracell automotive batteries?

I have never tried a Duracell Auto battery but they are sold by Batteries Plus stores in the southwest.
You may or may not have these stores in your part of the country.
Order online and pick up at your local store for a 10% discount.

I have never been disappointed with an Interstate battery, my first choice sold, warrantied, and installed by Costco

Thanks for the tip. Batteries Plus wanted $130 for the size 48 / H6 Duracell, but Sams Club was only $115 AND it was another 5% off using my Disciver Card, so just got it and new battery solved my problem! Starts right up quickly! Still can't believe the OEM went so fast! Duracell got great reviews and best warranty, so we'all see how it does...

...just figured out the one at Sams is also a little better than Batteries Plus. The Sams Duracell is 730 CCA w/3 yr. free replacement and the Batteries Plus Duracell is 660 CCA w/2yr. free replacement warranty...

I don't quite understand your assertion that, "GM doesn't care after 50K miles". What do you mean? Although I've never had a OEM battery only last 2 1/2 years - you did put 50,000 miles on it during that time.

Battery is only covered for 3/36K, but up to 50K on some GM makes. If I had purchased the battery from an AC Delco dealer myself, then it would be prorated under warranty, but since it came in the car, I don't get the warranty that would normally come with the battery from AC Delco, hence the statement that GM doesn't care after 50K miles... Battery warranties don't have mileage limits and I just had a bad battery after 2 1/2 years... Never had a battery go bad in that short of time!

Re: 2015 Equinox Battery Dying After Only 2 Years?!

My oem battery let go after 2 years in our 2011 Equinox LTZ and GM replaced under warranty. I did not have any add on equipment, A battery can go at any time or last a long time. I still have the replacement in the car.
