Found out that you CAN upgrade from the dreaded base radio to MyLink....

Hey there,

For all of you that have ever wanted to change your dreaded 2010 and newer Equinox base blue display radio to a MyLink Unit, you actually can, just as you can in the Chevrolet Camero, Cruze, GMC Terrain, Buick Regal, and Verano... as well as several others.....

Apparently, the Panasonic based base system in each and everyone of these vehicles turns out to be malfunctioning frequently and hated by all, so, there are a million posts out there about upgrading anyone of these vehicles to the more reliable and newer MyLink systems (also made by Panasonic with the display by Alpine... Possibly a selling point). Even GM dealers themselves recommend the upgrade due to so many failures of the base units.

For the Equinox, just like the first gen, you have to add the voice command microphone bridge to the OnStar module, However, different from the first gen, you need not only the main unit from a 2013 or newer Equinox, but also, the entire mid dash cover with climate control and the LCD touch screen, and, not required, but, might be needed, the VIN of the original Equinox the MyLink unit came out of..... It all pretty much installs the very same way as the original, however, if programming it yourself via an MDI and ACDelco SPS subscription, take note of the following:

- Due to this particular type of receiver being in so many configurations and used across several vehicles and platforms, if you do not have the original VIN, then you may have to do some Craigslist research and try several VINs to get it working correctly, however, you may unlock it after the first try.

- Some GM dealers will refuse to program this to your vehicle due to the length of time it takes the firmware to possibly load, and, some do not even have the MDI to program with.

- Take note that the loading of the firmware onto this receiver can take up to 20 minutes to load per try due to some of the DIC functions are loaded onto it as well.

- These radios have an integrated XM receiver which means that all antenna connections are at the radio main unit itself.

- Look up other posts regarding the radio upgrade to address any wiring concerns, though, it's pretty straightforward.

- These radios absolutely CANNOT be programmed with a Tech II tool, and, can ONLY be programmed with an MDI and SPS subscription.

These radios and the LCDs can be found very cheaply on ebay.

Will have more info later, but, yes, it is possible as it has been done before.

Thank you,
