2011 Equinox 2.4L engine problems since I bought the car

What really aggravates me about this is that GM and Chevrolet know dang well that the 2010-2011 2.4L engine had total garbage pins on them, causing timing chain problems which lead them to stretch and make noise, which in very short time destroys the entire engine.

If you're reading this post, you know what I'm talking about. It also affects hundreds of thousands of other cars, such as the 2010-2011 Buick LaCrosse, 2011 Buick Regal, and 2010-2011 GMC Terrain.

They've issued plenty of bulletins on this - see, for example, 12313C. There are so many other very-related problems with actuators (see 11195A), manifolds (see 14882), and the cam sensor valves (see 15285; 14710, and 15810).

I've taken my poor decision to buy this car like a man, and haven't posted until now. I paid Chevy for everything, waited many days without transportation, and lived with the constant fear that the car would stop on the highway, killing me and others. All for what?

With 90K miles on it now, my car is in the shop for the 8th time, and they want $1,457.00 to put the new chain/gaskets/tensioner on. Of course, they don't know just how damaged the car is, so this is just yet another band-aid short of putting an entirely new engine in.

The dealer (who I won't name yet) isn't doing me any favors either. I brought the car in on Monday morning, and they didn't even CALL me until Thursday morning. When I called on Wednesday, they told me that "6 people called in sick" that day.

Why should I pay them? Why should I even think of getting another GM product again?

Do you still owe money on the car? If not its time to get rid of it. I have a 10' with the 2.4 and I havnt had any big issues.

I've had the timing chain replaced but that was under warranty.

Uhm, 90k?
I think you are still under the extended warranty for the timing chain.
Believe it goes to 120k/10 years?

You're right that it goes to 120K now, based on what I just read in 12313C.

But the dealer won't get back to me if they're covering it, and saying they're having a busy week.

I laugh evertime the dealer says they're busy. Am I not a customer. I should be the busy.

Ask them for a list of the other customers that are more important then you, ibet anything they are customers that are paying for there services and not warrenty work

3 things,
Call GM customer service.
Call another dealer and see if they will take it.
Send the general manager an email to this thread and actually name their dealership.

Oh, and then there is always a good Google review.
Start with GM or another dealership first.

Re: 2011 Equinox 2.4L engine problems since I bought the car

update (june 1, 2017)

The shady bsatards at Grand Prize Chevrolet in Nanuet NY got me to pay almost $600 to do the timing chain. Of course, their guy made it like he was the good one, having gotten Chevy/GM to pay like $900 for it, and they were kicking in "good will."

From my perspective, and I could be wrong, he was going for the "confuse the fcuk out of the customer: technique. He was trying to insist that the timing chain that I needed fixed was totally different from the "fuel pump chain" that's at the heart of the 12313C/Engine Balance Chain special coverage adjustment. Even if he's right, every single fcuking person I dealt with there were so full of shyt that there's no way I'm buying from them...and quite possibly, just avoiding GM altogether and getting another Ford.

I'm particularly pisssed b/c I paid $850 in Feb and another $250 in March to them, all for what to me was teh same problem: issues with noise, stalling, and obvious underperformance of the 2.4L engine.

The car was there for 10 days total. They didn't begin working on it until day 9 because, as Kevin and Bill said, "6 guys called in sick." Also, their main service guy wouldn't give me a loaner until the final day, claiming that loaners there "are reserved 3 weeks in advance." When finally, on day 10, I was at the desk and saw them just give a loaner to a hot girl customer, I complained and called him out on his total lie, so I got a loaner.

I also want to call out Laura over there. Every time I was waiting to talk to someone at the desk, she was babbling on and on about her landscaping, her Trex deck, and other things she had to do around the house. Maybe this constant ignoring of the customer is why they had my car for 10 days.

Bottom line - 1. I paid over $1700 for repairs; 2. Grand Prize Chevy in Nanuet NY fcuked me over (or, at the very least, were totally shady), and 3. my next car is a Ford or Toyota.

Anyone at Chevy reading this, I have a case number, and I'll be glad to share more details about my experience there -- or even totally take this post down -- if you reach out to me to clarify anything/correct me if I was wrong in stating anything above.

if you paid for something that is under warranty/extended warranty-- submit/request paperwork for refund-- especially since the work was done at a dealer.
